BIEN (The International Conference of Women Scientists and Engineers conference on BT, IT, ET, and NT) was initiated in 2003 as the first international conference organized by The Association of Korean Woman Scientists and Engineers (KWSE). This international conference aims to spread and exchange the achievements of Bio, Information, Environment/Energy/Earth, Nano, Space, convergence technologies, and Basic Science. We also try to strengthen the global capacity of women scientists and engineers by building international networks for collaboration and partnerships between domestic and foreign scientists and engineers.

BIEN was held in Daejeon in 2003, Busan in 2009, Seoul in 2013, and Seoul in 2017. BIEN 2017 was held in celebration of the 24th anniversary of KWSE with approximately 800 participants from 20 countries under the theme of "Women Scientists and Engineers Shaping the Future."
